About
The Department of Computer Engineering at Sharif University of Technology has a distinguished history as the first independent department of its kind in Iran, established in 1985. The initial undergraduate programs focused on "Software" and "Hardware" majors, were complemented by corresponding master’s programs in 1987. The department expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of a PhD program in 1997, followed by an MS in Artificial Intelligence in 1998, and BS and MS programs in Information Technology in 2002. In 2016, the department consolidated all undergraduate majors under the unified BS in Computer Engineering.
Today, the department is home to 36 esteemed faculty members, over 600 undergraduate students, and more than 400 graduate students. It is widely recognized as the premier computer science and engineering department in Iran and ranks among the best in the region. The department has an impressive record of achievements, including multiple Gold Medals in regional ICPC programming contests and the RoboCup Robots Soccer World Championships. Additionally, it has spearheaded national initiatives such as AI Challenge, Data Days, and FPGA design contests, underscoring its commitment to advancing technological innovation.
Beyond academics, the department is renowned for its excellence in research and large-scale industrial collaborations. Its contributions have consistently pushed the boundaries of computer engineering, solidifying its reputation as a hub of innovation and expertise.
